The North China Herald - 26 October 1912, Shanghai ...Among those present, in addition to those already mentioned, were Mr. V. Dent, Mr. W. F. Inglis, the Rev. C. E. Darwent and Mr. E. Trueman of the Scout Council, Mr. E. C. Pearce, Mr. Merriman and Colonel A.A.S. Barnes.
Mr. V. Dent, who presided at the distribution of the prizes, after referring to the Chief Scoutmaster's report, said that Mr. Paul King who should have presided in his place has resigned and he had been asked by the "Scout Council" to take his place. To refer in detail to Mr. King's valuable services would be to go against his wishes. The Council, in accepting Mr. King's resignation, took the opportunity to record their high appreciation of his valuable co-operation in the past and their regret at losing him in future. On the other hand they now welcomed Mr. Merriman who had consented to serve on the Council, thus evidencing the sympathetic interest taken by our American cousins in the Scout movement.
